Or maybe you could pack all the dolls and their clothes and accessories and furniture away except one? You could leave out only the clothes and accessories and furniture for only one doll? You could promise yourself that you won't take out anything that's packed away, until one month has passed. Then at the end of the month, if you still weren't interested in that one doll, you could pack her away too. You could keep them packed away until you felt them calling to you again.

Just a suggestion. These things come in seasons sometimes, and maybe this just isn't the season in your life for dolls.

I often can't play with dolls when I'm under stress, or have too many things going on in my life.

It worked, but it was was not a month, but about 4-5 days before I went and got them and the furniture out. I missed them so baaaad. So, just give yourself a break.

I agree about leaving them for awhile. Often when I am stressed though I will talk to them or just carry one around with me. That's how the whole book/character note-passing/four of their alternate personalities came into place... er, long story, we were bored in English class freshman year.
Anyway, I like to write stories where the girls are the main characters. I think I learn stuff about them that I never knew.
For the longest time I'd only go and change their clothes occasionally and not really play with them, so that's OK too.
My sister loves to have the dolls perform plays. We're going to eventually make a stop action form of "Wicked" with my friend Kristine.
Our scenes and settings book is going to be a way for them to go back in time.
Also I like tinuviel's idea where they all live in a town and have different events in the town, etc.
Often when I can't think of anything I decide they need to make an album. One that I'm working on is a reality show for three of the girls.
I also like them to have clubs at school - it provides a lot of activities for them to do. For example, they have a service club, a newspaper, a literary magazine, and a lot of sports clubs. We had a flying club for awhile, but I think the best one was rock climbing. If you don't want to have the clubs all the time, we just pretend our girls have meetings while we're not there.
They also go to "conferences" like "You Go Girl!" which was a leadership/Youth in Government thing, "Superstar Survivor" which was a survivor-type competition for them, or just field trips to different places around the world.

One of DD's new favorite things to do is to take one or two of the girls on a Dolly Adventure, even if it is just for a car ride or to shopping etc. It can be really fun to take them out of the house, kind of keeps the fun fresh and interesting!

I also think Sheila & Joy have great ideas about packing the dolls up for a bit. We do this all the time at our house with a wide variety of toys. The ones that need a rest go in the toy chest and when they come out again they are ready for playtime.

Colleen, I love your ideas for dolly play! The clubs and conferences especially grab my attention....

Great ideas, everyone!

I also like Tinuviel's doll town idea and your boarding school idea, Colleen. My dolls live in Star Valley. But right now, since I'm not home and neither is Kirsten, Kirsten is going to a boarding school in Pleasantburg. When Rosalind and Megan come (MAC dolls) they will also go to the boarding school and then move to Star Valley. I'm starting to get more variety of dolls. I make stop-frame movies with them and write stories with them too.
